Our tenth year of  "August Nights" - dinners and music under the stars  - was a real success and enjoyed by both our hotel guests and outside clients.  Music ranged from Spanish Boleros, Bossa Nova (Brazilian traditional guitar melodies) and Cuban romantic songs.  We offered themed dinners to accompany the music as well as additional special menu nights of Lebanese, Argentinean and Middle Eastern cuisine.

Kamal, our head chef, obviously had fun researching and interpreting his ideas and was keen to continue the theme of the international kitchen.  So on Friday nights during October and November we will again be offering special menus from around the world - see our activities page for dates and dinners.   There will also be more music nights too.

These months just after the summer are some of the most pleasurable. The days are still balmy so our guests can continue to enjoy breakfast and lunch on the terrace and there are still roses filling the garden with colour and perfume.

Autumn is not yet fully with us but almonds are already being harvested, and wild mushrooms are appearing, much to the excitement of the locals and this year is promising to be an excellent one for fungi enthusiasts.

Our "Autumn Nature Escape" package offers a fun few days with 4x4 guided excursion, mushroom foraging and cookery workshop all included - we think this should also appeal to our younger guests who never miss the opportunity to explore our farm and get their hands dirty!

Goings On in the Farmhouse Kitchen

Kamal is busy pickling, preserving and making delicious dishes with the produce from our garden.  Lots of tomatoes, peppers, aubergines - real Mediterranean ingredients and the figs are still abundant.

Always willing to experiment with new and unusual varieties, we planted a rather different type of cucumber this year - our "huerto" is now being invaded by the cucamelons. If anyone has any idea what to do with them please let us know!

The wonderful yellow Calanda peaches are in season, delicious raw but also excellent for poaching and this month's recipe from The Pantry is a Spicy Peach Chutney.

Keeping to the theme of preserving we are offering an afternoon "Pickles and Chutneys" workshop on Saturday, 11th October - lots of helpful ideas and recipes - especially what to do with all those ripe and green tomatoes!

Other cookery workshops will include wild mushrooms and game cookery, we have a whisky tasting and Christmas Floral ideas.  And once a month the opportunity to indulge in a delicious traditional English Tea.  All dates and details are listed on the Events Page.
